Wow I love this! Your retelling is wonderful and strikes a similar chord with my own version of Little Red Riding Hood I put out on my profile. I really like your exploration of family lines through the grandmother and down to LRRH. I'm also fascinated by the earlier "Story of the Grandmother" version, it's so worth exploring stories we assume we already know everything about. LRRH is endlessly compelling, full of meaty themes, and your fairytale retelling project sounds so fun. Good luck!
oh my goodness this is incredible! your retelling is beautiful and i just loved everything about this post. i remember in my last year at school, i chose to do an extended project about fairytale retellings, and this post really brought me back to a lot of the things i was looking at with the sanitisation and distortion of original tales. thank you for writing this! i’m looking forward to seeing more of your posts
Thank you so much for reading it Isabel! My hope for this series is that I might get other Substack authors to contribute their own fairy tale retellings -- it's such a fun form! Excited for next month's!
Thanks for the all of the stories Moonight! I appreciate how you're focused on stories that empower young women. Really interesting how the grandmother used her own pain to defeat the wolf and save her granddaughter!
this is so good omg
I’m so glad you enjoyed! I have four amazing writers currently working on fairy tale retellings so there will be more of these coming each month :)
Wow! This is awesome!!!! I love it!!
Thank you!! I’ve got another of my own retellings coming later this month! It’s of The Swan Maiden!
OMG YESSSS! that's one of my favorite fairy tales 💜. I'm so excited!!!!!
